Waiting For You

Waiting For You

After the Saturday thrill comes the sunday chill!

One of the years most anticipated albums from the dubstep/future dub quarters has finally landed.

The newest alter ego of Kevin Martin, best known as The Bug, King Midas Sound, a collaboration with vocalist Roger Robinson, investigates a hazy, greasy dubstep which, while sharing a clear taste for gritty dub and rounded bass lines.

With instrumentation limited to the occasional lead synth line and stabbed chord, Waiting For You is naturally filled with cavernous reverb and precisely orchestrated delays and Martin gleefully fills barren spaces with Robinson’s echo. Thematically, Robinson’s focus broadly falls onto relationships (broken and successful), straying once into conscious lyricism.
Hot diggity! Enjoy

Pick Up The Phone

Share By Foss

DragonetteOkay, normally I’m not at huge fan of posting multiple remixes of the same song. But once in a while you bump in to a track with so many great mixes that you just got to have them all.

I feel that way with “Pick Up the Phone”.

The track is from Dragonette, an Canadian electropop quartet. Martina Sorbara is the lead singer and she has quite a characteristic and sweet voice. The three others in the band are Dan Kurtz, Chris Hugget and Joel Stouffer.

Sorbara and Kurtz met at a Canadian folk music festival and they formed a duo named The Fuzz. Later they married and because Kurtz also played bass in The New Deal the two newly wed decided to go full-time on their new project and move to London for a while with a new record deal in their hands.

Before moving to UK they picked up the rest of the quartet and renamed to the now-know-name Dragonette.
In London they recorded their first real album after the self-entitled EP from 2005. The debut album was called “Galore” and saw the bright light of London in 2007. While in London they supported big names like Basement Jaxx and Sugarbabes and opened for New order and Duran Duran. Later Kurtz said the the opening gig for New Order “was a fucking disaster” because “we were not meant for their crowd”.

None of the tracks from Galore ranked very high on any hit list what so ever, but when doing a cover of Calvin Harris’ “The Girls” (renaming the song to “The Boys”) Dragonette received some airplay and after releasing a new track “I Get Around” the band peaked at #66 on the Billboard’s Canadian Hot 100.

In 2008 Martina and Dan helped Cyndi Lauper, writing and producing “Grab a Hold” from her 2008 album “Bring Ya to the Brink”. That same year they received a Juno Award nomination for Best New Group. In 2009 their new album “Fixin to Thrill” was released and this time Dragonettes had a bit of luck going their way.
“Pick Up The Phone” reached #43 at the Canadian charts and they been able to create a bit of fuzz about themselves.
Via.

In lack of better words the Dragonette do electropop heavily inspired by the 80′s icons like Depeche Mode and Eurythmics. The new wave synthpop was so the 80′s got a huge comeback and seems to be the new black. The genre definitely seems to be having it’s impact on hit music this year!

Anyway here I bring you four different remixes of “Pick Up The Phone”.
One by Jaxsur ( :<3: ), one by Beaumont, one by Richard X and one by Mr. Vega.

Friday Guest Bangers (week 50)

Friday Bangers (week 50)

My name is Louie McPherson, 22 years of age. I study graphic communication/design and don’t really do much else. My dear cousin (Hemmingsen) has allowed me to throw in a few tracks, that i cant stop listening to.

Dance, Kill, Move – Girls are Boys (Yeah! Woho! Rework)
This first one was introduced to me by a friend from school just two weeks ago. To be honest, i don’t really know much about Dance, Kill, Move. Never heard of them till my friend introduced this track. I’ve checked out their myspace, and theres more to be found there! Check it out! I’ve been trying to find the version that Yeah! Woho! hasn’t mixed, but no luck. But who cares? It’s still an amazing track!
I really like the fact, thath they’ve mixed in the chorus from “Jump On It” with Sir Mix-A-Lot. Gives it a nice humoristic finish. Enjoy!

Just a Band – Aarghh !!
The two french DJs are enjoying the sweetness of succes at the moment. Currently on a big tour with names such as Boyz Noise. The sound of this track has a lot of resemblance to Boys Noize, which is never a bad thing. It’s kind of hard, but if you like it like that, you will enjoy this song!

Pizeta – Klezmer (feat. Reagadelica)
Let’s calm down for a bit. I love this track. In all it’s simplicity! Not much else to say? Don’t really know anything about Pizeta, but love this track!

Ramon Tapia – Trommelmaschine
This track should definitely NOT be listened to on computer speakers. Hook your computer up with some great speakers, and press play! It’s an amazing track! Simple but very effective! Ramon Tapia is a chilean DJ, but moved to Holland due to the regime in Chile. After working in a record shop, he decided to make some music of his own – i’m glad he did. He has a style that really suits me, and especially like this track!

Mr. Oizo – Positif
I just can’t help throwing this track in! I LOVE IT! And i think thats the nature of this track (and of Mr. Oizo). You either love it or hate it. It makes me smile every time i hear it. Loads and loads of humor in this track, and in many other of Mr. Oizo’s. Eiskalt genießen! :<3:

Birdy Nam Nam – War Paint
Their name alone deserves ever so much credit! But so does this track. I’m a huge dubstep fan. This is not dubstep, but certainly has some dubstep-things to it, mixed with electronic. A great mix, a great track!

Thats about it. Hope you like this little contrubution!
