Interview with Funkerman
For the upcoming Adorena – House of House event we got the chance to interview Dutch house star Funkerman!
First off could you tell us what you are working on right now?
I just finished my artist album “House For All” which will be released in a couple of days. Furthermore I’m working on some remixes for tracks of my album and doing some remixes for other artists.
We know you have a lot of upcoming gig. Which one do you look most forward to?
I always look forward to the gig that is up first. That way I always have something in the near future to look forward to but I’m really looking forward to my gig in Denmark May 22nd.
How do you select tracks for an event like Adorena – House of House?
Selecting tracks is an ongoing process. I am always looking for some cool new tracks that I can use in different occasions. But I always want to be at the event first to get a feeling of the crowd and atmosphere before I start to think which direction I want to take it.
You recently worked with Danish Ida Corr on the single “Unconditional Love” for your new album. How was that?
We first met Ida when we did “Let Me Think About It” on our label, Flamingo Recordings. We actually came in contact because we’ve already worked with Camille Jones (The Creeps) and they are good friends and at the same management, so that’s how we got to work together.
We did a lot of tours together and when we were touring through Australia last year, we talked about doing a track together which became the first single of the album “Unconditional Love”. She is amazing, on and off stage!!
You also did a few remixes of Ida Corr and Camille Jones track. What is it you love about these two beautiful Danish girls?
If they wouldn’t be making such incredible tracks, they would only be beautiful woman hahaha. When we did the tour in Australia together I got to know them a bit better. They are really nice girls and I love working with them.
Any plans on working with other Danes?
Never say never. If the opportunity arises, absolutely!
From what I know your most recent remix is “Otherside” by RHCP. Why did you choose that particular track?
Actually this is not an official remix. It’s a version I made just for my shows, but my luggage was stolen and the music I was carrying
is spread on the internet now. We always make edits and remixes like this just for our performances.
I read an interview where you said that when you started as a DJ one could only dream of the opportunities that the internet provide. How do you feel about the ever-growing blog-scene sharing information about the artists and music often for free?
Internet is our biggest friend but also our biggest enemy. I am happy that people can find what they want to know about artists and music. But I cannot say that I don’t understand why people download music for free because it’s so easy. It is almost literally offered to the people. However it’s killing the real musician. If I would only be a producer and not a DJ everything would be more difficult for me.
Do you think that the blogs are a positive thing for the music industry?
I think the music industry as we know it is very depending on internet in general, so blogging can help to make an artist more popular but it can also get you down.
Moving on. Do you have any favorite tracks right now?
You will have to come and listen before you can read it on the internet or in an interview hahaha
Do you listen to the same music on the go and at home?
No, I have a large music collection that covers almost every style. I will always look for the music that fits to my feeling at that specific moment.
Any last words?
Keep the vibe alive. Never let anything kill the pleasure
Thanks a lot for your time!
