Kings in Control

Share By Foss

Sunday evening I dragged my fever infested body back to the fields of Roskilde Festival for the closing concert by Kings of Leon. The festival fields bore clear traces of the heavy water masses and mud was the dominant ingredient. But after a quick meal at the much more civilized Media City and a bunch of painkillers I felt ready for the last (and unfortunately only my second) concert at this years Roskilde.

The clock showed 22:00 when they entered the stage. Boom – Radioactive was blasting vividly through the speakers. After a few intro tracks lead singer Anthony Caleb Followill announced what seemed so straightforward: “We are Kings of Leon”.

Leading the show on with Tennessee-classics from their older albums: “The Bucket” and “Fans” and adding a few from their latest album like the slow “Back Down South”. Then a sudden break. Caleb on the mic again. He tells us that this is their last show on the tour and because of that he want’s to have a party. The 3 brothers and the cousin puts on the heavy “Crawl” to open the ball and follows up with the distorted “Charmer” from “Because of the Times”.

A rather unenthusiastic Caleb grabs the mic again the thanks us, the people at Roskilde Festival, for sticking out through the rain and staying this last night. We thank them for being there – on the stage.

Then something interesting happens. It got political.

“This next song is about gay marriage”. Boom, what a bomb. The band from the small heavily conservative town of Mount Juliet, Tennessee where same-sex marriage is banned by law suddenly stated their support of gay marriage. “Oh and we’ll dance like boyfriends …”

This was definitely the turning point of the gig. It got sharper from here and more interesting. The Kings added edge to the show by that little remark.
Still with an almost perfect mix of old songs and new songs like “Closer” from hit album “Only by the Night” and “California Waiting” from their debut album “Youth & Young Manhood”.

All in all I found that the Kings were slow to get going but when they first put it in 5th gear the were definitely in control and the audience loved it. For that I’ll give them 4/6 orange tents.

x-mas, door #24

Share By Foss

The last door in the x-mas calendar has now been opened!

This door is special because you will not only find one track but several good track to pump up your x-mas.

First track is from danish Entakt sent over a new track called Zimmerman. It is the first single from an upcoming EP that is to be released in 2011. The track got some air-play via Danish Radio P3 and P4 and now Dub Tractor remixed it. It’s a fantastic melodious, moody and melancholic track with a great vocal.

I’ve earlier shared my passion for Grum and this x-mas post is a good opportunity to share another of their great remixes. Human Life, a LA based trio that make disco house, got remixed by Grum.

Same thing happened to Fenech-Soler. The British electropop band released the second single called “Lies” from their self-entitled album.

Last but not least we have yet another Groove Armada track (I do love these guys).

Enjoy this last door in the x-mas calendar!

As much as I love Groove Armada I certainly love Grum just a little bit more!
With their synth, 80′s beat and catchy remixes (and original track) they never ceases to amaze me. Plus the are great for a dance floor filler.
Chelly is a Brooklyin based R&B/pop artist. Grum got their hands on the awful (yeah, I mean awful..) track “Took the night” and turned it into a pleasant nu-disco ride!

Oooh boys and girls, remember to participate in our discussion on what the best tracks of 2010 are! Do it on facebook via our fan-page. Thanks!

Friday Bangers (week 43)

Share By Foss

Friday Bangers (week 43)Yay it’s Friday again! This means 5 crackeling bangers for you and your portable player.

Starting out with the always neat and often posted Fever Ray and her dark and special sound. Rex The Dog remixed the track “Triangle Walks” but kept the sound of Karin Dreijer with a twist!

Next up we have a mashup. To the background music of Justice, Wale and Lady Gaga are rapping their way through the track.

Canadian MSTRKRFT is always up for a good party. Their track “Fist of God” is just booming with energy.

The same goes for Swedish Hugg & Pepp. With their house sound and the touch of Tocadisco the track “Sweet Rosie” is bound to be a banger!

Grum spits out disco-tech ready for the dance floor! And it doesn’t get much better when the track swooped by German FutureFlashs for additional disco rhythms!

Enjoy an all english Friday Banger from Hejven.se!
