End of Roskilde 2010

Share By Foss

Roskilde 2010 has closed now kicking it’s last guests out as the great cleaning job starts.

Once again the festival guests left enormous amount of trash, tents and sleeping bags. But as the volunteers start cleaning the camping and festival area we can look back on the festival and figure out what was good and what was bad. What to do better next year and what to keep on doing the exactly same way as we’ve always been doing it.

Pros:

  • The weather (as if we’re in control of that..)
  • The Camp Parties. Amazing stuff!
  • Robyn I just love that blonde swede.
  • Names like Nephew, Muse and Kashmir did an amazing job rocking up Roskilde
  • An amazing crow at every f*ckin concert!

Cons:

  • Too few electronic names! We hope that Roskilde will improve on this next year!
  • The festival food. Too expensive and too poor quality.
  • The fact that you can’t bring you own drinks to the festival area and the queues at the beer tents are HUGE!
  • The toilets.. Smelly stuff.
  • Must say too few electronic names again!

The amazing crowd!
If I should rate this years festival I would give it 4 big stars. The weather helped a lot but I sure missed a few more electronic names. The rock names however were cool and really gave good performances.

Roskilde Update #2

Saturday was a musical bomb here at Roskilde!

Camp party!

A quiet start
Starting out in the soft end with Danish The Rumour Said Fire. They had the tough job of playing 12:30 in the morning. The Danish guys did a terrific job.
The Bergen-based indie duo Kings of Convenience followed up with a soft concert where they played for their biggest crow ever.

Later that same day The Floor Is Made Of Lava gave a steaming hot performance with a good mix of old songs and new ones from their “Howl at the Moon” album. The hot weather helped keep the heat up.

Danish Kashmir kick-started the Orange Stage as the sun was on it’s way to set after another hot and beautiful day. Lead singer, Kasper Eistrup, had troubles finding the right key sometimes but it didn’t stop Kashmir from delivering a great performance. Starting of with a good old classic, “Vote 4 Dick Taid”, the band got a firm grip of the crowd and managed to keep the grip even through the more slow songs as “Rocket Brothers”. Ending the concert with more old song was a brilliant idea, but it left the younger crowd looking like a question mark.

Pendulum live at Arena

From Pendulum to Muse
At the Arena stage Australian Pendulum played their heavy drum ‘n’ bass supported by a live drummer and guitarist. It worked surprisingly well and soon the crowd was bubbling with energy!
A great deal of the crowd, myself included, had greater plans for the night and hurried back to the Orange Stage. Muse was due to play and the no longer green grass in front of the Orange Stage was packed with people waiting for the British rock group.
And what a show the crow got! All the hits, great performance, the lead singer in a shiny suit and amazing guitar play! The crowd got what the came for, a show and all the god old and new tracks. But maybe I already had the Swedish electro pop queen, Robyn, on my mind because at the end of the concert the performance got a little too studio like.

Robyn isn’t dancing on her own – We are with her!
This girl I’ve really been looking forward to see. The blonde Robyn with that sweet voice of hers. She started off with “Fembot” from her new album and that set the crowd wild! Of course the major hit “Dancing on my own” made the people dance even more and a good combination of new and old songs as well as Robyns energetic and blasting performance made the perfect party in the Arena tent. Tracks like “The Girl and the Robot” (featuring Röyksopp) and “With Every Heartbeat” (featuring Kleerup) just topped the party.
It's hard to see but yes, it is Robyn!
From electropop to rave
As if the party at Arena with Robyn wasn’t enough British The Prodigy played at the Orange Stage at 01:00 in the night. With their noisy hard beating electronica and with a massive light show they managed to keep the party going with tracks like “Smack My Bitch Up” and “Invaders Must Die”.
The Camp Party is still going strong at 06:00!
Later that night I found myself raving on into the night, first with Moderat at 03:00 and later in our camp with the local DJs!

What a day at Roskilde!!

Roskilde Update #1

Orange StageIt’s been a crazy week here at Roskilde but now it’s time for an update!

The weather has been amazing and definiteley adding a lot of good things to the Orange Feeling 2010.

Thursday started with the Electrojuice concert and the young boys sure knows how to throw a party! They played at great deal of good tracks and got the day started with a heavy bass.

Gorillaz however didn’t quite match the party the young boys from Electrojuice had started. They played as if they just didn’t bother and could as was have been playing in a studio.

Friday started off with an amazing concert by Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and they really managed to get the crowd started! By playing all of their best songs the crowd responded positiveley and Dizzy gave one of the best perfornances I’ve seen on Roskilde in a while.

Danish CV Jørgensen was also a big hit Friday. His charateristic voice and moody songs was enough to please the crowd and CV gave a great concert with a lot of his good songs.

Late Friday night Nephew gave a blast of a concert. They were on fire and soon got the crowd jumping!
The Danish guys played almost every hit song they’ve had and it peaked with a guest appearence by L.O.C.

Den Sorte Skole did however close the party Nephew had started. They use to do the sweetest mixes with a lot of influence by middle-easteren music, but the job of “mixing” 40 years of Roskilde musical history they didn’t manage. The mixes were dull and it’s felt more like a play/pause concert..

I only have two complaints so far: the heat (can’t stand it!) and the smell..

But man do I look forward to seeing Roby, Pendulum, The Prodigy and Muse tonight!

Stay tuned as we’ll update the site with more reviews and pictures.

Okay, so the Roskilde Festival is getting closer and by now you should have equipped yourself with a waterproof tent, a camping chair, sleeping bag and a whole lotta beer!

Hejven will be reporting almost daily from the festival with pictures, events and other goodies! So keep an eye out for the blog to get you daily Roskilde update.

One of the big names this year is definitely Gorillaz. The cartoon band released their 3rd studio album this year after a five year musical drought. The “Stylo” music video featuring Bruce Willis became a hit at the start of 2010. Alex Metric did this super funky remix.

Australian Pendulum is a drum-and-bass band. They are playing it hard style, but if you can take it you should drop by when they play at Roskilde. I’ve found a Van She Tech remix of “Propane Nightmares” for consideration.

Miike Snow is one of my all time favorites. Recently the released a new single called “Billie Holiday” and LightsoverLA did a decent yet moody remix.

The Floor Is Made Of Lava is a Danish rock band with a great sound. This year the released a new album “Howl At The Moon”. Their last album, “All Juice, No Fruit”, got remixed big time and “IKEA Did A Job On You” is from that remix-album.

LCD Soundsystem is signed with DFA and that alone is a signal of great quality. They produce great dance-punk in that DFA-ish way. This Holy Ghost! remix found it’s way to my hear a long time ago.

Body Talk Pt. 1

Share By Foss

Robyn - Body Talk Pt. 1Yesterday the Swedish queen of electro pop, Robyn, released her fifth studio album. The album is called “Body Talk Pt. 1″ and you might already heard Robyns lovely voice in the radio or on the net.
This first album is one of three mini-albums in the “Body Talk”-series Robyn is to release in 2010.

The first official single from the album, “Dancing On My Own” was released on June the 1st and it seems like it’s going to be one of the big tunes this summer. But you might have stumbled upon “Fembot” or “Dancehall Queen” as these have been released to digital outlets and have won massive attention through airplay.

“Dancing On My Own” has already been remixed by Fred Falke and Jakwob (with a nice dubstep-ish feel!) among others.

Robyn worked together with Diplo on the track “Dancehall Queen” which was leaked as “No Hassle”.

The beautiful blonde Swedish girl also worked with Röyksopp on the more moody and dark track “None of Dem”.

After around half an hour of sweet electro pop with Robyns characteristic voice and “feel” you get somewhat surprised by the two last tracks, “Hang With Me” and “Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa”. The first of them is an acoustic track and far from the party and electro sounds that the rest of the album has to offer. And “Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa” is Robyns take on a traditional Swedish melody also far from the electro sounds.

All in all the album is definitely worth your sweet little savings! Go buy it here.
And remember that you can experience Robyn live at Roskilde on the Arena stage saturday the 3rd July at midnight!
