Suburbia – Juan Maclean remix

A while ago when Le Gammeltoft did our Friday Bangers we promised to keep an eye on the not-yet-released Spleen United track.
Then I went to Thailand but now I’m back to find the track has been released and therefor I wanted to share it with you guys.

Spleen United is a Danish rock/electro/synth band. From the 2008 album “Neanderthal” we can find “Suburbia”. Not too long ago The Juan MacLean did a remix which have now been released.

Friday Guest Bangers (week 1)

Two Friday Bangers in one week? Yes, we have gone mad.

We asked Le Gammeltoft to choose five track that she likes and have been listening to the past few weeks.

Le is among other things a radio host on the weekly Friday night show “Unga Bunga” with Kjeld Tolstrup and “Smag på P3” with Nicholas Kawamura.
Besides being a radio host Le is also a DJ with weekly gigs on some of the major clubs in Copenhagen and she co-compiles the “Sound of Copenhagen”-albums.

Samantha Fu – “Theme from Discoteque (Mixhell Edit)”
“When I was due to play after Mike Sheridan at KB18 I played this track as the first one.. The vocal goes “Do you know where your teenager is at five o’clock in the morning?” … You’re allowed to tease a bit, aren’t you?! It’s one of my favorite tracks at the time!”

Dave Floyd & Pookie – “Pure Pleasure”
“This track works super sweet for the late night hours. Especially when mixed with a track that is a bit warmer. And it’s quite fresh that one of them is named Pookie…”

Spleen United – “Suburbia (Juan MacLean Remix)”
“It’s no surprise that I’m a huge fan of Spleen United. No other band in Denmark has the sound these guys have. Their music is up-tempo – but it still has great depth. What we have here is a whole new remix by Juan Maclean from New York – and the record label DFA Records (which I’m by the way also is a huge fan of.) It doesn’t sound that much like Spleen anymore, but the track is awesome!”

Hess Is More – “Ssshhhh (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)”
“Again a remix that lies far from the original sound. We use the original track as the theme for the radio program Unga Bunga and we were curious to listen to the remix. Zombie Disco Squad from London has a great sound and they’ve been able to create a track that is very multifaceted. You can find bits and pieces of most genres in the track…”

Massive Attack – “Paradise Circus”
“I’ve been listening to “Paradise Circus” ever since my good friend Lewis posted it on his Facebook page. It’s a track from Massive Attacks coming (and long awaited) album. The albums name is “Heligoland” and will be released February the 8. Can’t wait! On this track Hope Sandoval features.”

VHS or Beta?

VHS or Beta comes from Louisville, Kentucky in the center right of the Bible Belt of The US. They have been active in producing what they call a combination of rock, French house and dance-punk since the late nineties. And with a few albums out they kept the funk on, but it’s been a while since the five man band released a track.
But now they are back!

And LA Riots gives a helping hand.

But it’s not like VHS or Beta have released nothing in the past few years. They did a great remix of Danish Spleen United’s “She Falls In Love With Machines” not to mention both The Juan MacLean track “Happy House” and Tigercity’s “Are You Sensation”.

By the way, the name of course comes from the war between the rivaling formats to record video, VHS and Betamax.
